Baguio City: According to the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA), 17 out of 477 volunteers throughout the country are in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR). The CAR volunteers are all foreigners which include one Australian through the Australian Volunteers for International Development (AVID); three Koreans through the Korean Overseas Volunteers (KOV); and thirteen Americans through the United States Peace Corps (USPC).
Seven of the volunteers are in the province of Benguet; five are in the province of Ifugao; and five are in the province of Mountain Province. In terms of the institution that they serve, five are working with church, non-government, and people’s organizations; eight are with schools; and four are with Local Government Units (LGUs).
The volunteers are sharing their expertise from community development, language, computer science, agriculture, arts and psychology.
The figures on volunteers represent only those accredited by the PNVSCA, which is the government agency mandated to promote volunteerism and coordinate volunteer programs and activities in the Philippines. PNVSCA also has a local volunteer program called Volunteer for Information and Development Assistance (VIDA).
PNVSCA is seeking Local Partner Organizations for the deployment of VIDA volunteers. In CAR, it prioritizes the provinces of Abra and Apayao for deployment.
LGUs, NGOs, Schools and church institutions may request for these local volunteers. A VIDA volunteer is given a living allowance of P2,000.00 a month by PNVSCA. Travel expenses in the volunteer’s course of work shall be the counterpart of Local Partner Organizations.
Forms for a VIDA volunteer request are available at NEDA-CAR or the Local Partner Organization may contact PNVSCA directly.
