The RDC CAR Secretariat successfully defended its title as over-all champion in the 3rd Luzon Inter-RDC Secretariat Productivity Olympics held at the CamSur Watersports Complex (CWC) in Pili, Camarines Sur.

It was a stormy Sunday with TY Karen crossing North Luzon when the 23-person contingent from NEDA Regional Office (NRO)-CAR, as RDC Secretariat, started off from Baguio City for the 17-hour trip to Bicol.  The Cordillera team was in high spirits as then NEDA-5 Asst. Regional Director Cha Berces (now Regional Director of NEDA Region 3), as host and organizer, welcomed the seven regions participating in the week-long event that not only featured sports competition but also a zumba contest and inter-regional fun games.

Director Berces highlighted the themes of sportsmanship, wellness and promoting camaraderie among the more than 200 participants from the Luzon NROs.  After the opening ceremonies, the NRO CAR was off to a rousing start, being awarded the Best Zumba Performance and the Best Female Zumba Dance courtesy of Ms. Jane Sianen of the Social Preparation of CAR into an Autonomous Region (SPCAR) Unit.  The CAR team, however, struggled with the team sports of basketball and volleyball on the second day as they faced-off with a younger players from Region 1.  The losses were, however, soothed with a beautiful performance of the tonggatong, indigenous music played with bamboo poles, the Bontoc boogie dance and the duggayam community dancing of Ifugao that were much appreciated by the crowd during the cultural night.

The third day of competition saw spirits lifted with the team’s efforts that saw wins in the individual and 2-person events of badminton, table tennis and darts.  At the end of the day, it was clear the collective points of these events edged out CAR’s closest rival, NEDA Region I, to award the region as overall champion for the second straight year.  Aside from the Best Zumba Performance, the medal haul of CAR was three golds and four silvers.

The Luzon Inter-RDC Secretariat Olympics, now on its third year, is an annual activity that seeks to promote cooperation and strengthen ties among the secretariat of the Luzon Regional Development Councils while also forging friendships among the staff.  It is definitely a fun way to boost work productivity at the same time promoting the year-long wellness program of NEDA.
