The third quest for regional autonomy in the Cordilleras, by some indications, is gaining ground with ranking officials uniting forces and acknowledging the value of grassroots consultations.
Compared with the previous bid for autonomy, more government workers, and those from the private sectors, are showing interest in the merits of autonomy during recent provincial consultations.
Consultations were held during the course of the Cordillera Unity Relay, which started at the historical Mt. Data Hotel in Bauko, Mountain Province on May 28.
A gong, which serves as the unity symbol, had been transferring from province to province until it reached Baguio City on the eve of the 25th Cordillera Administrative Region Foundation Day on July 14.
