La Trinidad, Benguet – Around 155 members of the CAR Federation of Irrigators Association (CARFIA) were informed on Cordillera autonomy during the association’s general assembly held on December 7, 2017 at the Farmers’ Training Center, Wangal, La Trinidad, Benguet.
The irrigators’ association regional president, Mr. Remy Albano, initiated the inclusion of autonomy discussion in their activity. Mr. Lawrence Balud presented the basic concepts and the roadmap for achieving autonomy towards federalism.
The Cordillera Regional Development Council (RDC-CAR) and the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA-CAR) administered a pre and post straw poll to determine the participants’ understanding and support to Cordillera regional autonomy. Majority of the participants responded positively to the queries in both polls. Towards the end of Balud’s discussion, the participants signed a statement of support for the establishment of the Autonomous Region of the Cordillera (ARC).
The RDC welcomes similar activities where opportunities for information drive on regional autonomy is included. The RDC remains hopeful that more activities will be led by peoples’ organizations (PO), Civil Society Organizations (CSO) and Non-government Organizations (NGO) this 2018 (by Zenia P. Cadiogan, NEDA- SPCAR).
