The Cordillera People’s Alliance (CPA), an aggrupation of grassroots organizations in the region discussed regional autonomy during its 27th Cordillera Day Celebration in Barangay Buneg in Lacub, Abra (go to viewpoint for the related story) in April 26-27, 2011.
Cordillera Day is being celebrated by CPA every April 24. The event used to be called Macli-ing Dulag Memorial Day to commemorate Macli-ing’s death in April 24, 1980.
In 1985, it became Cordillera Day to include in the commemoration other Cordillera martyrs in the defense of the Cordillera ancestral domain.
Macli-ing Dulag led the opposition that frustrated the World Bank funded Chico Dam projects. He was an elder of Bugnay, Tinglayan, Kalinga, one of the villages that could have submerged if the dam projects proceeded.
