BAGUIO CITY – NEDA-CAR led by Regional Director Milagros Rimando met with Asian Development Bank (ADB) consultants last April 1 to discuss the on-going Infrastructure Preparation and Innovation Facility (IPIF) flood control projects funded by the ADB and implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways. NEDA-CAR committed to provide technical support to the consultants as they conduct site visits and technical studies necessary to formulate a river flood risk management masterplan for the Apayao-Abulug and Abra rivers. These masterplans will focus on flood control and non-structural measures of flood mitigation in the Abra and Apayao-Abulug river basins.

The ADB-funded project includes 4 other river basins in the Philippines, namely: Jalaur in Panay, Agus in Lanao del Sur, Buayan-Malungon in Sarangani, and Tagum in Davao del Norte. The project aims to mitigate flooding along these river systems through infrastructure, diversion channels, and nature or green-based solutions. The masterplans are scheduled to be finalized after May 2019. Upon the completion of the masterplans, feasibility and detailed engineering studies for selected projects will be undertaken. Loan applications will be set by 2021 to implement the identified projects.

Director Rimando assured the ADB consultants and DPWH CAR that NEDA-CAR will offer its technical expertise in the review of the masterplans prior to the endorsement of the Cordillera Regional Development Council.
