The dream for autonomous region in the northern highland lives on.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan said the House Committee on Local Government approved House Bill 5595, which seeks to establish the Cordillera as an autonomous region.

The committee approval came a few months after five of seven Cordillera congressmen signed the proposal during the last quarter of 2011.

The authors of the bill are Reps. Bernardo Vergara of Baguio City, Teodoro Baguilat Jr. of Ifugao, Maximo Dalog Sr. of Mountain Province, Eleanor Begtang of Apayao, and Manuel Agyao of Kalinga.

Reps. Ronald Cosalan of Benguet and Joyce Bernos of Abra did not affix their signatures claiming they need to consult first their provincial, municipal, and barangay leaders and constituents on the matter.
