BAGUIO CITY – The Regional Development Council Infrastructure Development Committee, chaired by DPWH-CAR, and host province of Kalinga have laid out the set of events for the Cordillera month celebration during the 2nd quarter Infrastructure committee meeting held in the DPWH-CAR Multi-Purpose Hall, Baguio City last May 28. The theme for this year’s celebration is CAR@32: Building One Greater Cordillera.

Kalinga Provincial Planning and Development Officer Flor Moldero announced that the Kick-off ceremony will start at the provincial capitol of Tabuk City on July 9. The kick-off program will formally start the Unity Gong Relay that will traverse the entire Cordillera region starting in Kalinga to Apayao (July 9), Abra (July 10), Benguet and Baguio City (July 11), Mountain Province (July 12), Ifugao (July 13) then back to Kalinga on July 14. The Unity Gong Relay is spearheaded by DILG-CAR who coordinated with DPWH and the local government unit.

Other activities set for July 14 are the Cordillera Weave Fashion Show featuring fabrics and models from all around the region and the fellowship night among the Cordillera leaders and delegates which will be showcasing Cordillera indigenous cuisine courtesy of the Pasil Slow Food Community.

The culmination program will be on July 15 following a parade around the provincial capitol compound with representatives from the Regional Development Council, regional line agencies, provincial local governments, and other local government units and civil society organizations. During the culminating program, the Infrastructure Committee will unveil the major infrastructure gains of the region since 1987, through a video presentation.  A Kapetirya, hosted by DTI-CAR featuring Cordillera-based coffee products will be showcased during the program. The program will end with the provincial government of Kalinga and the Infrastructure Committee turning over the Unity Gong to the Economic Development Committee and the next host province, Mountain Province that will lead next year’s 33rd anniversary celebration.

The Philippine Information Agency Cordillera will hold a Kapihan Press Conference on June 26 to present the activities lined up for the Cordillera month celebration and the exact Unity Gong Relay route as well as plans of other sectoral committees of the RDC.
