You are assured of our steadfast support to the attainment of the AmBisyon Natin goal because as part of the Filipino society, we are responsible in contributing our share in the development not only of Mountain Province but of the entire country as well”.

So thus committed Provincial Administrator Atty. Amador Batay-an in his Opening Message during the AmBisyon Natin 2040 Cordillera Provincial Forum conducted on December 15, 2016 at the Mountain Province State Polytechnic College (MPSPC), Bontoc, Mountain Province.

Atty. Batay-an also encouraged the predominantly young audience to listen well to the presentations and discussions since the AmBisyon Natin dream is “not for us, but for you, the younger generation.”

NEDA-CAR Development Research Division Chief Ms.  Carmel Matabang presented the overview while Engr. Dolores Molintas, chief of the Policy Formulation and Planning Division, discussed how the government intends to implement the AmBisyon Natin vision that cuts across four administrations.

Mr. Gary Pekas of the Provincial Government of Mountain Province and member of the RDC Speakers Bureau on Autonomy also gave a brief presentation on the Cordillera people’s history and struggle for self-determination that led to the region’s pursuit of autonomy.

During the Open Forum, MPSPC President Dr. Rexton Chakas raised the urgency of developing the rural areas to correct the seeming bias towards urban development.  He also expressed concern that the youth surveyed did not indicate agriculture as their preferred field of study in college but rather preferred to go into education, science, business administration and other related fields.  He also suggested that the proposed policy of providing free tertiary education be carefully studied as its disadvantages may outweigh its advantages.

The forum was attended by 168 participants, 80 percent of whom are college and high school students.  The rest were representatives from the provincial and municipal LGUs and offices.

The forum is one in a series of activities conducted by NEDA-CAR to advocate the AmBisyon Natin 2040 in the Cordillera Region.  The regional launching was conducted in November 15, 2016 in Baguio City, followed by a forum for the Regional Statistics Committee in December 5, held also in Baguio City
