Itogon, Benguet – NEDA CAR employees undertook annual tree planting last August 8, 2013 in Barangay Sabkil of this town as part of its commitment to the National Greening Program (NGP) of President Benigno Simeon Aquino III. NEDA CAR has been initiating tree planting long before the creation of the NGP.

Declared in Executive Order No. 26, the NGP aims to plant some 1.5 Billion trees covering about 1.5 Million hectares for a period of six (6) years from 2011 to 2016.

The DENR, which leads the NGP, stated that greening activities should contribute to poverty reduction, food security and climate change mitigation which are among its objectives.

The NEDA CAR employees planted some 400 Arabica coffee seedlings. Arabica coffee, dubbed as CAR’s regional one town one product thrives well in the region among few others.

Arabica coffee is a high value crop of CAR. It was adopted by the RDC Economic Development Committee as a banner project to boost the region’s coffee industry.

Demands for Arabica coffee is significantly increasing and has been attested as viable for world market as well.
