Baguio City – The Philippines Statistics Authority-Cordillera Administrative Region (PSA-CAR) in partnership with the Philippine Statistical Research and Training Institute (PSRTI) recently conducted a three-day Complementary Training on Data Visualization using Infographics. The three-day training was attended by participants from various regional line agencies and state universities from September 26-28, 2023 in Baguio City.

The training provided knowledge and skills in the creation of visual aids and graphics for more effective communication of official data. This aims at increasing the confidence of the trainees in planning and designing infographics and in appreciating the importance of good storytelling using Canva, an online infographic design tool.

NEDA Regional Director Susan A. Sumbeling in her opening statement said that the Regional Statistics Committee-CAR appreciates the efforts of capacitating data managers in communicating information to facilitate evidence-based planning and decision making in the region. She also quipped, “It’s a very good investment as the skills developed through this training will give empowerment to the participants for better promotion of statistics.”

The review of basic statistics, data storytelling, and the introduction to data visualization using Infographics were presented by Ms. Jazel Ann G. Ramos, a Senior Statistical Specialist of the PSRTI Training Division. Mr. Ken Zedric G. Ganan, Statistical Specialist 1, also of the PSRTI Training Division shared the fundamentals of infographics, their usefulness, elements, steps in designing infographics, and the best practices in designing an infographic.

Mr. Aldrin Fedirico R. Bahit Jr., Chief Statistical Specialist of the Statistical Operations and Coordination Division of PSA-CAR, shared the RSC-CAR’s achievements during his closing message.

The PSA and PSRTI were created by virtue of the Republic Act 10625 or the Philippine Statistical Act of 2013. Together with the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA), a series of trainings were also conducted for the Local Government Units (LGUs) in celebration of the PSA and PSRTI’s 10th Founding Anniversary.
