BAGUIO CITY – The National Economic and Development Authority saw twenty-four of its staff from the regional offices of the Ilocos Region (Region I) and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) take their oath as new Environmental Planners on August 27, after having passed the licensure exam in June.
Fellow environmental planner and NEDA-CAR Regional Director Milagros Rimando gave an inspirational message where she urged the newly-instated planners to grow their network and continue improving professionally. “Continue to grow and improve for the sake of national and regional development”, Rimando said.
There are currently over 6,000 registered environmental planners in the country. These licensed professionals prepare and coordinate development plans at the national and local level with an emphasis on the sustainable use of resources. Republic Act No. 10587 mandates the professionalization of environmental planning in the country which asserts that “[the state] shall develop and nurture competent, virtuous, productive and well-rounded professional environmental planners”.
As the secretariat of their respective Regional Development Councils, NEDA regional office staff regularly coordinate with planning and development offices in the provincial, city, and municipal level to ensure the proper implementation of national and regional development plans.
