Giving emphasis on the importance of Loakan Airport to Baguio’s tourism and economic development, the Regional Development Council (RDC-CAR) and the office of Congressman Nicasio Aliping Jr. are now working together to push for the upgrading and re-opening of the city’s lone airport to commercial flight.
National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) Regional Director Milagros Rimando, in a recent kapihan media forum, affirmed the RDC’s support to the proposed rehabilitation of Loakan airport, which she hopes to put into an official resolution.
Rimando stressed that bringing in commercial flight to Baguio is essential in boosting the tourism industry of the city and the rest of Cordillera, as well as in boosting the economic activities in the Baguio Economic Zone and the locators of Camp John Hay.
Aliping also reiterated his support for the rehabilitation of Loakan airport which he earlier expressed during his talk with Department of Tourism (DOT) Regional Director Purificacion Molintas and Loakan Airport manager Mary Sulyn Sagorsor. Aliping also disclosed that he has set a meeting with Department of Transportation and Communication Secretary Jose Emilio Abaya for a possible counterpart or fund sharing for the rehabilitation of the Loakan Airport. He added that he plans to go to the office of Vice President Jejomar Binay to ask for a possible augmentation.
