The Cordillera Regional Development Council unanimously approved the establishment of the Regional Research, Development and Innovation Committee (RRDIC) as a Support Committee during the Cordillera RDC-RPOC First Quarter meeting held in Baguio City on February 23, 2018.
The creation of the RRDIC is a recognition of the importance of research, development and innovation to the region’s development, and the urgent need to coordinate, provide policy directions, and harmonize and prioritize major R&D activities in the region.
The Committee shall be composed of representatives of the following government agencies: CHED, DA, DENR, DILG, DOH, DOST, NEDA, NCIP, PSA, and the Watershed and Water Resources Research Center or WWRC; and the DOST’s three research consortia: the Cordillera Industry and Energy Research and Development Consortium (CIERDEC), Cordillera Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic and Resources Research and Development (CorCAARRD), and Cordillera Regional Health Research and Development Consortium (CRHRDC). Other members include representatives from the Philippine Association of State Colleges and Universities and the private sector.
As a Committee under the RDC, the RRDIC shall influence the R&D agenda of research consortia and agencies towards the RDP 2017-2022 and promote technology transfer and commercialization of R&D results. Aside from these, it is also tasked to prepare and update the Regional Research and Development Agenda; serve as channel for R&D proposal review and endorsement for researches requiring RDC endorsement; and advocate inter-agency collaboration and partnership in R&D development and S&T development.
DOST has committed to provide the funds for the creation and operationalization of the Support Committee, and together with NEDA, provide secretariat services.
