The Executive committee of the Cordillera Regional Development Council called for the preparation of the various committee work plans for 2020 during the ExeCom 1st Quarter meeting. The committee set date of the RDC 2019 Assessment and 2020 Work Planning to February 21. This is to give ample time for the various sectoral and support committees to prepare their work plans.

The RDC committees will present the respective work plans as well as the RDC Social Preparation of CAR into an Autonomous Region (SPCAR) program work plan. The Council will also review its major accomplishments and milestones in 2019.

In 2019, the RDC faced a transition period as members ended their terms concurrent with the local elections. Abra Governor Joy Bernos was appointed the RDC-CAR Chair for 2019 to 2022 by President Duterte succeeding former Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan who served as Chair from 2016 to 2019.

Even with the change in leadership, the year 2019 saw a continued effort towards regional development. The Joint Cordillera RDC and Regional Peace and Order Council approved 56 resolutions endorsed by the 6 Sectoral Committees, 7 support committees and the RDC Executive Committee. The RDC, with the RPOC worked together to address development and peace & order concerns. The RDC continued to lead the region’s quest for sustainable development and just and lasting peace through its long-standing goal of attaining regional autonomy.

The year 2020 is set to be another eventful year for the RDC with the inclusion of CAR Congressmen as members,  the confirmation of various Special Non-Voting Members (SNVMs), the conduct of the 33rd Cordillera celebration, the intensified advocacy for the passage of the proposed Cordillera Organic Act, and the implementation of the various RDC committee work plans and initiatives which will be finalized in February 21.
