Baguio City – A regional consultation to update and refine the Regional Development Plan (RDP), Results Matrices (RM) and Regional Development Investment Program (RDIP) was done last October 2, 2013.
National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) CAR and Regional Development Council Vice Chairman Milagros A. Rimando said that the regional consultation aimed to elicit comments and suggestions, issues and concerns and get proposed policies/strategies and programs/projects relative to the regional development goals on (a) social and human development, (b) sustained economic growth, (c) environmental quality and the sustainable use of resources, (d) cultural integrity and cultural identity, (e) regional integration and (f) regional autonomy.
Among the general suggestions to enhance the draft reports were the need to strengthen and strictly implement existing development strategies and policies while new ones were proposed. There was also a strong clamor to clarify the roles of the private sector organizations (PSOs) and civil society organizations (CSOs).
Results of the workshop shall be included in the draft updated RDP/RM/RDIP that covers the period 2014-2016 subject to review and adoption by the RDC through its sectoral committees. Subsequently, it will be submitted to President Benigno Simeon Aquino III next month.
Consultation participants were from the regional line agencies, Local Government Units (LGUs), the PSOs, CSOs and state universities and colleges (SUCs).
La Trinidad Mayor Edna Tabanda challenged the participants saying that a lot remains to be done in the development of the region.
“We should walk our talk in the context of good governance!” she added.
