The proposed PPP for School Infrastructure Project II (PSIP II) was endorsed by the Regional Development Council.
The project is one of the Department of Education’s key programs under the government’s Public-Private-Partnership strategy. It seeks to replicate the PSIP I which involved the successful bid, award and implementation of quality and accessible classroom packages (including toilets and furnitures) in Regions 1, 3 and 4-A.
Through the PSIP II, 635 classrooms in 395 school sites located across the region’s 6 provinces and one city will be constructed. This is about 51 percent of the 1,251 classrooms needed in the region for SY 2013-2014.
Likewise endorsed by the RDC is a follow-up resolution that requests the Department of Education to fully address the shortage of classrooms in CAR.
Nationwide, the project involves the construction of 10,679 classsroom packages. The winning bidders are required to construct and turn-over the completed classrooms in one year. As a PPP project, it will be implemented using the “Build-Transfer” modality.
