One hundred fifty economics students from the University of the Philippines Baguio, Saint Louis University (Region CAR), Pangasinan State University (Region I), and Central Luzon State University (Region III) attended the Academic Convention in Economics 2017 held on April 23, 2017 at the Pines View Hotel, Baguio City.
Carrying the theme, “Crafting towards nation development: The Philippine Development Plan 2017-2022 as a primary step in attaining AmBisyon Natin 2040”, the young economists met primarily to gain insights from experts regarding current trends and economic issues besetting the country.
The convention included the following topics as presented by the following agencies: NEDA-CAR for the AmBisyon Natin 2040 and the Philippine Development Plan; the central office of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources on the roles of DENR in the implementation of the Philippine Development Plan; and the United Nation Development Programme for its support to the Plan.
During the open forum, the participants sought more information pertaining to national policies being brought down to the region. They also asked about existing indicators for the “malasakit” component of the development plan and more information on disaster risk reduction and mitigation strategies in the Plan.
The convention was organized by the UP Baguio Economics Society – a non-stock, non-profit, socio-civic organization.
